There are several reasons why teachers and students use technology in the classroom. The cyber world as we know it is constantly evolving, and it is important that teachers find creative ways to connect with their students. Using technology in a classroom setting allows teachers to conduct a lesson more efficiently, while still getting their point across. In one of our readers about professional development of teachers in relation to technology, it states how technology has served as a tool in bringing many teachers together who would have never met. This goes for students as well. Technology allows you to share ideas with several groups of people without having to travel across the world.

Additionally, technology that is used for educational purpose comes with a set of standards. There are a set number of standards that students must adhere to as well as teachers. The term used for these standards are called ISTE standards, or, International Society for Technology in Education. As for students,  there are 6 guidelines that determines if they are usually their technology skills effectively. Personally. the standard  that is most meaningful to me is "Communication and Collaboration". I love sharing new ideas as well as learning new ideas. The standard that is a little outside of my current skill set is "Technology Operations and Concepts". I say this because I have not fully developed a concrete understanding of how to operate certain systems efficiently.

Lastly, there are some students who are labeled "digital natives" and some who are not. Digital natives are the people who've been surrounded by technology their whole life. They view technology as a necessity and vital for learning. On the other hand,  many people are classified as digital immigrants, ones who do not  depend on technology in their day to day life. Growing up, many of my teachers did not use  technology in my early academic career. It was not important back then as it is today. Even now in college, some of my professors say that they rather not use technology because they feel as if it is complicated. It never really affected my learning experience because they put heir all into making sure we learned. When i began teaching, I feel like using technology is going to be a requirement for all teachers because the generation after us were born into it.
